Respond to the following scenario using the knowledge you have gained from reading about Functional Area 1: Safe.
A child who is emotionally disturbed has been enrolled in your classroom. The child's behavior disrupts the class's activities and takes a great deal of the teacher's and other children's time. Because of the child's hitting, kicking, and throwing of heavy materials, a safety issue for the other children is also involved. The parents have refused services in a more appropriate setting. How can you and your program balance the requirements of this child with special needs with the needs of the other children in the classroom?
Safety is a necessity in a child care facility. With that being said, if a child is displaying unsafe behaviors, the teacher should document the behavior and have a verbal conversation with the family. Once that happens, and the family refuse additional services, the teacher should alter her environment suitable for that child. I.e., remove larger blocks when that child is in play, rearrange the setting for the safety of everyone, and create a kit so that the child can have their own items to use for individual satisfaction. Using calming techniques, reinforcing the rules, visuals, and a behavior chart is always important for all children to be reminded that the negative behaviors aren't best.

Unfortunately the child would have to be removed from the program because of other children and staff being put in harms way and the parents not complying.
According to chapter 1 safety is and must be top priority. It is important that educators ensures and reassures parents that their child will be kept safe in their care.
In this scenario the educator must ensures that he/she documents the child's behavior. Incident/accident reports should be properly filled out and parents gets a copy. Administration should be made aware of such behavior . Meetings ,Parent/Teachers conferences should be set up between parent /educator/ Administration to try and find a resolution to the issue. Recommends/suggestions should be made to see how best child can be help.
Since the parent refuse to seek outside assistance , the educator must try and exhaust all avenues to see how best they can help the child. The educator can try to redirect the child. Have one on one interaction. Try to find activities that the child is interested in . If issue cannot be resolved then a decision will have to be made to ensure continued safety of all children in setting.
Parents of the other children in classroom must be made aware of the situation. They most be constantly reassured and reminded that their child's safety is paramount .
In a situation of the child disruptive behavior,it is Mandatory to report on such form of behavior. To seek guidance.According to Functional Area 1: safe on pg 11 U.S department of health and Human Service,as of 2015.
Hence an intervention would ascertain the family environment in which the child is coming from and address these concerns.
