Respond to the following scenario using the knowledge you have gained from reading about Functional Area 4: Physical.
Some parents are upset because a child with cerebral palsy was just admitted into the program. They felt too much of the staff's time would be focused on that child, to the detriment of their own children. What should you do?
If a parent came to me concerned about this particular situation, I would express to them that they are in an inclusive classroom that receive resources for the child. Without expressing unnecessary details, I will tell them that the child has a one-on-one aid that is required to aid and support the child. Whilst the other children are still receiving the proper needs, and support from the other teaching staff.
I would assure them that the same amount of 1on 1 time would be equal time shared among every child and that we can’t remove the child from the program because they feel uncomfortable its called equal rights in the class setting
I would reassure the parents that all children have rights and should be treated equally.
Furthermore I would ask if it was their child, what would be their expectations. Then remind the parent of the convention on rights of the child and though the child has a disability he/she is still a person and should be treated as such.
